Identification of different seed species in certification samples

Seed certification is a fundamental process for guaranteeing the quality, purity, and traceability of plant material intended for agricultural production. One of the most important aspects of this process is the correct identification of the species present in seed lots, as the presence of weed seeds can affect both crop yields and compliance with current regulations. This workshop aims to provide a technical and practical overview of the species to be identified during the certification process, as well as those that may appear in batches of cereals, forage crops, and maize. Throughout the various presentations, morphological and methodological criteria for species recognition will be addressed, with an emphasis on those groups that can cause confusion or difficulties during inspection and quality control. The workshop is aimed at professionals in the agricultural sector, technicians, and personnel involved in seed production, marketing, and certification, with the goal of updating knowledge and strengthening the skills necessary to guarantee high-quality plant material free from unwanted contamination.
